Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge almost had a very different backstory on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Geordi La Forge's backstory was originally planned to involve him being half-alien and pursued by his alien people, but this idea was abandoned in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Geordi's character development in TNG was limited compared to other characters, with his family being introduced in the seventh season and his engineering talent being his main focus.
In Star Trek: Picard season 3, it is revealed that Geordi is now a Starfleet Commodore with two daughters, working as the Head Curator at the Starfleet Museum, and has rebuilt the USS Enterprise-D.
